Wedding Trunk Bay St. John
Hi,
Day before yesterday I had the good fortune to meet Derek & Erin from Tennessee. The day started a little grey and overcast similar to the day before. I had planned on taking my kids out on the Hobie cat but it was just ugly and raining so we cancelled those plans. Fortunately for everyone involved the day of the wedding around noon the sun came through loud and clear with a fantastic cool breeze and BLUE skies. Just magic weather in the USVI.
I knew we were in for something special when I rounded the corner on my commute to the ferry boat destined for St. John. The water was calm with signs of a perfectly steady NE breeze! Would have been nice to have that on Sunday but it was not in the cards.
Landing in St. John a little ahead of schedule I was able to relax and enjoy the St. John milieu. This really is sublime spot on the globe. Boarding the taxi I met an obviously enlightened woman enjoying equally the beautiful weather upon us that day. We had a nice conversation about perspective and slowing down to feel the breeze every now and again. It was one of those moments that really don’t stand out but you know you will remember it for some time to come.
Getting to Trunk was rather memorable in it’s own way as the Taxi man did not exercise finesse in his driving technique. Make sure you grab a hold of something when you are in the back of these safaris. You will know what I mean if you ever have the pleasure. I can liken it to a crazy ride in a rickshaw if they could travel at over 30mph around steep hills and had disk breaks.
Back to the beach. Derek the groom, from here on out “Derek” was waiting behind the tree line just off the water. At Trunk there is a really nice line of seagrapes and palm trees that create a natural “screen” separating the beautiful white sand beach and a flatter area behind it perfect for preshots and setting up the beach for the event.
About 7 or 8 family members including Derek’s mom and sister where present. Three little ones enjoying the moment provided a mix of comic relief and excellent video content. We had a three year old vivacious ring bearer and a very pretty seven year old flower girl.
I can’t state enough how fantastic the climate was that day! Erin arrived shortly after the photographer and we gathered to have a pre-ceremony shoot for about two minutes. Erin was stunnig in a mermaid style dress that fit like a glove. All of the components for an amazing wedding film were gathering nicely together.
Everyone did thier job like they had been practicing for months. The 3 year old ring bearer and flower girl gave Oscar worthy performances!
I’m sure I sounded a little like a broken record expounding on how fabulous the weather was and how amazing the suset was working for the shoot but it was all coming right from the heart. I was having one of those days when you realize how much you love what you do.
I know Derek and Erin’s destination wedding will be remembered by all who attended, and those who view the video, for as long as they live. This was an amazing day like the mutlitude of amazing days we are blessed with in the US Virgin Islands. Pick a day and make one yours.
Mike
